From the biscuit tin

I was doing some website tweaks yesterday (read: looking at all of the things I had had grand plans to update during the school holidays … well, I do still have 5 days ??‍♀️) and found this picture, which somehow had become hidden. .
It came to me at quite an opportune moment, because I was having a bit of a wobble at the time (perhaps linked my unrealistic holiday work plans, although in truth it just happens sometimes, doesn’t it?!) it seemed like a sign to be a bit easier on myself. Live colourfully

What qualities do you associate with a colourful life and colourful people? When we say that someone is ‘colourful’, we often associate it with being a bit shocking , but why is it that being colourful is considered to be a negative thing? .
Living colourfully to me is about living an interesting life .. about curiosity … Being expressive or inventive… having confidence the confidence to try (and make mistakes) … about being our best creative selves. .

Create August – work in progress

On Wednesday I asked what colour everyone associated with the word amazing over on stories ….I had replies for every colour of the rainbow, but golden was most popular, so that’s what I’ve done – thank you! Throwback Thursday – family tree

Today’s post is a throwback and work in progress post all at once, as I’m currently making a family tree picture, and realised I hadn’t posted a photo of one for ages! .
Each leaf of the tree is individually stitched from my collection of Liberty scraps, the tiniest of tiny tiny buttons are hand stitched to the piece, and because there are a family of blue tits living in the trees in my garden, I always hide a little birds amongst the branches too.

Because I don’t make these pictures very often (I always get a flurry around Christmas!) I end up stitching little practice birds, so writing this post also reminded me to cut them up and list them on the website, which I’ve done this morning (link in bio) there are only four available so be quick!

Butterfly decals

Do you ever make something to sell which you then can’t part with? A couple of years ago I made a number of these little butterfly decals that I just couldn’t bring myself to list anywhere! But I came across a pile of them in a cupboard yesterday – some loose, some mounted on vintage papers and postcards – which seemed like a bit of a sad place for them to be, so I have popped them in to the sale section on my website. Enjoy the process

Do you love the creative process. Or do you hate it? I think it’s pretty normal to feel both ways; a relationship of highs and lows (and highs again). For it is quite inevitable that it will not all be smooth sailing. At some point along the way we will start to doubt ourselves, hit a stumbling block, think it’s all bit shit, we will find ourselves wanting to give it up and move on to something else. .
I often find myself in this loop and wishing that it wouldn’t happen. But as nice as it would be to bypass this part of the process, when we understand that it is perfectly normal, and coming out the other side can in fact mean that eureka moment when a good idea turns in to a great one, then we can start to … perhaps not quite enjoy it, but at least resign ourselves that it’s something that will probably happen. Once we accept it for what it is, it never feels quite so bad. .
