Happy dance

It’s been a while since I’ve shared a work in progress shot, so I thought I’d show you a little snippet of a new note picture that I’ve been working on. This one is called The amazing journey of an order. I decided to make it after all of the lovely comments and photo shares I get for my Thank you slip that I put in with my own orders

I obviously couldn’t leave out that happy dance feeling, and because it really does make me feel very happy getting an order I added a sparkly disco ball! .

I’ve listed this little map over on my website (there’s a link in my bio) it’s the same map that is included in my Finding Inspiration picture, and based on a section of Gloucester Road in Bristol (but it’s probably a fairly accurate representation of what it looks like inside my head! ?) Playing with paint

I had great fun splattering fabric paint ? over material, my workshop and all over myself yesterday (sadly it was only once I got home from the school run that I realised I had been sporting a yellow eyebrow ?) I wanted to make some maker badges that looked like they were cut from a painters apron – like a maker had made them ?. There are a few different wording options, which I’ve listed over on my website now.

Makers banner

I’m so pleased that my makers banners are getting lots of love, because I really love them too! My main criteria for printing on to fabric was that I really wanted the option of being able to personalise/embellish the final piece, and I’m just loving all the words of wisdom that you’re asking me to sew!

Nobody told this daisy that it got things wrong, that really a lawn was where it ought to be, for daisies don’t grow on walls… if they had, it’d have taken no notice and carried on looking bright and cheery there anyway. It just found it’s spot and did it’s own thing. And that’s what you should do too.

Thanks for all of the amazing messages and comments yesterday – I’m sending you all a medal for being awesome ??

My son Oscar was quite taken by the brave medal from my greatest showman set, and asked for one that said awesome with a star on it … he very rarely asks for anything (other than money for computer games?) and I’m pretty sure that he wasn’t actually expecting me to make it, as it’s now taken pride of place buried under a pile of stuff on his desk (I think perhaps it needs an extra stripe that reads messy ?) .

Hendricks card

I realised yesterday that it’s a year since I made the Hendricks bottle – my very first food – well, drink – picture … this mightn’t seem like a big milestone, but to me it’s a significant one. It marked a change of focus in my work, a tentative step to do my own thing and start making what really interested me. I had a bit of a wobble recently, when I tried (and failed!) to join an embroidery art group … and was made to feel that my work wasn’t good enough. I tell you this not for sympathy (luckily for me I have the most amazing team of cheerleaders, who help me to brush experiences like this away – thanks everyone ?) but because my takeaway from the experience was an important one; do what you do and keep on doing it – people who criticise, judge, or try to change your path really aren’t your people.

Its far too easy to get so caught up with what other people are doing that we forget to live our own lives and work towards our own goals at our own speed.
